Materials You'll Need
1️⃣ NYLON BEADING THREAD
I use Miyuki nylon beading thread. I do not recommend FireLine or WildFire for this project. It's too rigid and the fringe won't drape as nicely as it does with nylon beading thread.
2️⃣ BEADS
You can use any seed beads for this project, but it's important that they are uniform in size and shape, which is why I love Miyuki seed beads. In this tutorial, I use my Boho Rainbow Miyuki Bead Mix in size 11/0.
If you are new to beading, I suggest either using a bead mix or a single color while learning the technique. Once you get the hang of it, then try patterns.
3️⃣ FRAMES/HOOPS
This technique works with almost any size or shape frame or even blank hoop earrings. When searching for them, they are also often referred to as links or connectors. The hoops I used in this tutorial are available here.
This technique can also be used to make bag charms as shown with some of my free fringe patterns. To make bag charms, you will need clips with a D-ring.
4️⃣ SCISSORS
To cut your thread.
5️⃣ BEADING NEEDLE
This size needle you choose depends on the size beads you use. With Miyuki size 11/0 seed beads, I use a size 10 or 12 beading needle.
6️⃣ EAR WIRES
If you are using a frame and not a pair of blank hoops, you will need ear wires and a pair of chain nose pliers to attach the ear wires to the frame.
Additional Info
In the tutorial, I create a double bead foundation row. However, there's no right or wrong. You can make a single bead foundation if you prefer. To do this, follow the tutorial, but start with two beads instead of 4. Then add one bead at a time instead of 2.
In general, if the edge of the frame I am attaching beads to is straight (not curved), I use a double bead foundation row. If it's curved, I create a single bead foundation row.
